Camu-Camu is a hovering shrub that grows wild in the várzea (floodplain forests) of the Amazon. It bears a fruit which turns red upon and is about the size of a lime. Camu-camu fruit is generally harvested with canoes since it matures during the Amazon estuary’s period of flooding. Camu-Camu is recognized as the food with the world’s highest concentration of natural Vitamin C. Studies have shown it to have more than 30 times more than oranges. It also is a significant source of iron, niacin, riboflavin, and potassium. Its combination of minerals and amino acids help absorb the vitamin C into the bloodstream. Beta-carotene, calcium, leucine, serine, thiamin, and valine can also be found.
We source Camu Camu pulp from deep in the Amazon rainforest. This product is rare and relatively scarce so supply is limited.
